                            Freudian Capers

                         When eyelids close

                         and sun bathes the face

                         young girls march insistently

                         swirling skirts pass by

                         recede into a faint image

                         tiny figures in the distance

                         Clouds dissolve

                         remembering pain of something lost

                         reaching out

for that which was never had

                         drifting the easy way

                         in a dreamlike trance

                         moving forward

                         days  the nights  the years

                         towards some distant goal

                         just beyond your reach

                         Shadowy figures weave

                         in stately rhythms

                         faces appear

                         part of a forgotten memory

                         move inexorably in single file

chess pieces on an eternal board

                         never to be seen again
