                                 Guessed Wrong

He prayed in full dress with tie

                           before his arrogant representatives

                           respected with deep pride

                           the extensive real estate

                           built in his behalf

                           reveled in the acumen

of all those who dealt in his business

for God spoke to him from a plush pulpit

                           with a honeyed voice

                           that rang from the rafters

                           electronically induced.

                           on a Sabbath

                           the miracle of television

                           brought God to his home

                           not far from the refrigerator

                           filled with snacks

                           He entered the Promised Land

on the wings of a catchy jingle

in a great and glorious commercial

                           where perspiration was strictly taboo

                           aromas unpleasant never disturbed

                           the symmetry of its seasons

                           the exalted one

                           walked in regal splendor

in the form of a Giant Cockatoo

fingering the amulets of a strange God

                           With some trepidation

                           he entered their Celestial Gates

                           in full dress with tie

                           on a steamy odorless afternoon

                           for one weeks visitation rights

                           awaiting the Council's decision
