                             My Silent Friend

I told him of a life

                         I never led

                         adventures on a foreign sea

                         where I clashed with swords

                         my enemies disappeared

I strode   the hero that I was

                         a colossus over the Alps

my legions fanned across the plains

                         He sat and listened

a little smile on his thin face

                         I was a great lover

                         of mythical fame

                         maidens with innocent eyes

followed me from place to place

                         my theories changed the world

                         a world once weary

                         turned to me

                         my accolade was their support

                         a roar of approval

                         their final gift

                         Suddenly I reached for him

                         Don't ever leave  I cried

                         He sat and listened

                         my silent friend

a little smile on his thin face
