What Is Going On Out There?

                         You remember him then

                         the second from the left

                         growing out of black stockings

                         rubber banded under knickers

the quarterback played one on one

                         before he was double platooned

somewhere between the second and fourth war

dancing to the tune of a crystal set

                         he jumped feet first

                         from a Wall Street window

                         into the foxholes and bunkers

                         of Western Europe

                         You should see him now

portly one in the fourth row

hair touched up to control the gray

running to fat around the middle

                         he lusts after food

                         the third sex

                         and from his bastion tower

                         he can survey

no man's land of the shopping mall

                         creatures of the third world

doomed to wander in the night

                         breathe heavily

                         outside his castle gates
