                             Play It Again  Gus

There is a bit of sadness  here

                         Mahler  some music  please

we have know it all along

                         haven't we  darling?

so let me set the scene

the light is just a shade of gray

as the blinds begin to close

and the blooms begin to fall

                         Remember the relatives  dear

how they drifted in and out

                         some were friends

others  part of a landscape gone

                         captured on a canvas

                         by an impressionist  perhaps

                         they have the brush

                         I have the word

Mahler  please pick up the beat

What will happen to all the shops

                         in all the malls

all the churches  all the mosques

                         the synagogues and such

where will all the cigarettes go

                         untouched  unsmoked?

thing of growing weeds  my dear

in the lobby of a fine hotel

                         A hush descends

                         as the curtain falls

not a dry eye in the house

                         and Mahler  please

a little music for the soul
