                                 A Visit

He visits me in a sad year

                         Just widowed spreads his malaise

                         A martyr wares exposed

This five year gap still exists

                         Bedeviled somehow interwoven

Eyes rarely locked except to wonder

                         We brush cheeks

                         In a small airport

The plane leaves with a sigh

                         Dips into a cloudburst

                         For a final salute

                         Left is a vague dread

                         A stone as lifeless

                         Tossed upon stagnant water

                              After the Storm

                         Littered with yesterday’s dreams

                         Bones of living moments

                         Mingle with intruders

                         Of broken glass

                         A rusty tire iron

                         Plebeian interlopers

In an aristocracy of the sea

                         A scattered anarchy

                         Each competing for his story

                               Retirement Home

                         They live in a boat

                         Adrift somewhere in the bay

                         Attorneys collect their dividends

                         Women in sneakers

                         Sit in their rocking chairs

                         Memories packed neatly away

In a work box with a scented sachet

                         Hands folded quietly rocking

                         Waiting just waiting

                         Where are the men

The macho men who flexed their muscles?
