                           Requiem: Death of a Friend

                         Now that he is gone

                         the first pain has moved

into a corner of its own

a sense of loss pervades the spirit

                         we are diminished

                         the soul says to me

                         for we are alone

in a universe too vast to know

                         a strange dimension of time

                         we can never comprehend

                         If we are to survive

                         we must believe

in the teachings of our fathers

and when a grand child walks the streets

                         on some future day

                         he will walk with him

                         just as surely

as he is here with us

                         Let us sit together

                         in a quiet place

                         and remember
